Newark, NJ – June 14, 2008 – A crowd of hundreds of well-wishers filled the Multi-
Purpose Room of the Paul Robeson Campus Center at Rutgers State University-
Newark, on Saturday evening to witness the 2nd Annual Miss Liberia New Jersey
Scholarship Pageant hosted by Women’s Vision for Progress under the direction of Kim
Trinity and Debbie Ivy.
The winner was 18 year-old Alida Wilson of Newark, NJ. The 1st Runner-Up, Saymah
Nah, 2nd Runner-Up, Alexis Barclay, 4th runner-up, Cloe Simpson, 5th runner-up Juah
Payne, and 6th runner-up Harriett Sumo.
The contestants were judged based on their performances during the African Wear,
Swimwear, Talent, Evening Wear, and Interview competitions. Miss Wilson is a senior
heading to The University of Maryland where she will be studying Business & Marketing.
She is a member of the student council and the debate team. During her reign she will
promote her platform by helping and providing life’s basic necessities to orphaned and
disabled children in New Jersey and Liberia.
She hopes to complete a humanitarian mission to Liberia, West Africa before the end of
her reign where she will visit several orphanages and work with disabled children
helping to develop programs and activities to enrich their lives. She is a high school
graduate and is beginning her freshman year in Fall 2008. Alida will serve as a positive
and active voice in the northern and central New Jersey region where she will also
mentor to young ladies in her community.
On July 25, 2008 Alida competed in the 8th Annual Miss Liberia US Pageant winning the
title of 3rd Runner-up.
